Overview
The challenge
Our focus was to design a comprehensive, data-driven dashboard that helps various organizations evaluate the progress of Copilot adoption and identify areas where additional support and training might be beneficial. This tool needed to provide both quantitative and qualitative insights to offer a clear understanding of Copilot’s impact on productivity and employee engagement.
The biggest challenge lay in balancing the complexity of AI adoption metrics with a user-friendly interface, while addressing diverse organizational needs across licensing, activation, usage, and impact.
The process
This project was unique in its dynamic nature because we embarked on the design journey without having all the requirements and information determined. The project’s scope required extensive cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing, and with a pressing timeline, many activities had to happen in parallel. Despite these obstacles, the team embraced the opportunity to create rapid prototype and interactive feedback loops with senior leaders across PM, engineering, and design to ensure alignment.
After the first four months of rapid iteration cycles, our team reached a shared product vision and a more matured foundation, setting the stage for deeper user research. The research team used the private preview prototype to conduct research, and from the results, we were guided in the subsequent iterations. We discovered that while the dashboard UX met most expectations, it fell short in certain areas, as users anticipated it to:
The result
For the GA version, we incorporated top two user expectations including delivered value calculator and adoption trend data. Other design changes improved overall product clarity by simplifying information. The launch of Copilot Dashboard marked a pivotal moment in the AI transformation journey for customers, solidifying its role as a critical resource for enabling more efficient workplaces.
Leading the design from initial concept to global deployment in record time emphasized the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and a user-centered approach. It also enabled us to deliver a solution that addressed the needs of our diverse audience while meeting the target shipment date.
The dashboard empowers users to track readiness, understand adoption patterns, and quantify productivity gains, enhancing decision-making at both the individual and organizational levels.
